Throttle

Check Throttle Control Grip and Cable

1. Rotate the throttle control grip. It should rotate smoothly from

its rest position to its completely open position and back

again. It should return to its rest position quickly when released.

2. Throttle freeplay is the amount of throttle control grip

movement from the rest position to the point of cable

resistance. Freeplay should be 1/8-1/4 inch (3-6 mm). Adjust

throttle freeplay if necessary.

Adjust Throttle Freeplay

1. Be sure fast idle lever is off (low idle position). Roll the rubber

boots (A) back to expose lock nuts (B) and adjuster nuts (C).

2. Hold (C) and loosen (B) on both cables.
3. Turn (B) away from (C) as far as possible on both cables.
4. Turn both adjusters (C) toward lock nuts (B) as far as possible

for maximum free play in both cables.

5. Turn adjuster on throttle opening (front) cable away from

lock nut until throttle freeplay is 1/8-1/4 in. (3-6 mm).

6. To adjust closing cable (the one toward rear of motorcycle), move throttle grip back and forth constantly

and turn adjuster out slowly just until freeplay is removed. Turn adjuster back in 1 full turn.

7. Turn lock nuts on both cables until seated against adjuster nuts. Hold adjuster nut and tighten lock nut

securely (both cables). Roll both boots back over adjusters completely.

8. Check throttle control grip as described above. Start engine with transmission in neutral. Be sure fast idle lever

is in the off (low idle) position. Turn handlebars full left to full right. Idle RPM should not change when bars

are turned. RPM changes can be caused by a damaged cable, incorrect routing, or incorrect adjustment.
