❑ Make sure the printable side of the paper is loaded
correctly. For the sheet feeder, load cards with the printable
surface down; for the manual feed slot, load cards with the
printable surface up.

Caution:
Do not touch the printable surface of the paper. Hold the
cards by their edges. The moisture or oils on your fingers
can decrease the print quality.
❑ You may be able to select 720 dpi if your DOS program
supports 720-dpi printing. You can select from Bi-d, Uni-d,
or Auto print directions using the default-setting mode.
The Uni-d setting is recommended when printing at 720
dpi. See “Using the Default-Setting Mode” on page 6-4 for
details.
❑ Do not load index cards that are curled or bent.
❑ Return unused cards to their original package as soon
as possible after you finish printing. Unfavorable storage
conditions, such as high temperature, humidity, or direct
sunlight, can damage the paper.
❑ If your index cards don’t feed properly or jam, see Chapter 8.
Envelopes
When printing on envelopes, note the following:
❑ Make sure that the adjust lever is set to the + position. The
adjust lever is located inside the printer. See “Setting the
adjust lever” on page 5-19.
