• Place the lid in correct position with screw holes lined up, with the arrow on the UV Chamber
Lid facing towards the Filter Outlet. Insert the UV Chamber Cover Screw into lid.
• You may now plug in the UV unit.
• You can check that the UV is operating properly by looking into the clear viewing windows.
The glow from the UV Bulb is easier to see when viewed at dusk or at night.
NEVER LOOK
AT UV BULB WHEN OUT OF FILTER UNIT AND TURNED ON.
5) UltraKlear™ UV Maintenance & Cleaning
UNPLUGUNITBEFORESERVICING!
5.1 Routine Maintenance
• Very little maintenance is required once the UV unit is correctly installed. Periodically
check the tubing connections to ensure they are secure.
• Periodically check to see if the bulb is on by looking into the viewing window in the UV
Chamber Cover.
5.2 Annual Maintenance
• The UV Bulb in the UV Unit loses its efficiency during its lifespan— EVEN IF IT IS STILL
ON.
WE REcOMMEND REPLAcING THE UV BULB ON AN ANNUAL BASIS TO ENSURE PROPER
OPERATION.
• The Quartz Sleeve can become coated in lime scale buildup in hard water areas. Carefully
remove buildup with a clean, soft cloth and vinegar. Rinse thoroughly.
5.3 Winter Storage
• In colder climates, the UltraKlear™ UV unit should be removed from service before freez-
ing temperatures occur. If a freezing condition occurs, the UltraKlear™ UV may become
damaged. Monitor your water temperature and remove the UV Unit when the temperature
approaches freezing. Remove the inlet and outlet tubing connections, and clean and dry
unit. Store it in a warm, dry location. When reinstalling in the Spring, ensure all O-Ring
seals are lubricated as they may have dried out through the winter. Repeat the installation
procedure as outlined in Step 3.
IMPORTANT:The above step is extremely important due to the fact that freezing of pond
water inside the UV Unit may damage the Quartz Sleeve and electronics. The warranty will
not cover any damage to the Quartz Sleeve caused by freezing conditions.
6) Troubleshooting
6.1 Leaking Around the UltraKlear™ UV Unit
• Check that O-Ring seals are in place and not dirty or damaged. Apply supplied lubricant
to the o-rings.
• Double check that all Hose Clamps are tight.
6.2 Green Water (Suspended Algae)
• The flow rate through the UV Unit may not exceed the recommended specifications. See
Table 1. Flow rate is particularly important due to the fact that pond water must be
exposed to the UV light long enough to be treated.
4.3 Before Pump is turned on
• Ensure all fittings are tight and securely fastened to the UltraKlear™ Filter.
IMPORTANT:To ensure that internal leaks do not exist the unit must first be tested with the
pump running. Remove the UV Chamber Cover by removing the screw in the cover. Remove
the cover and electronics. Do not reinstall the UV Chamber Cover or install the UV Bulb at
this time.
4.4 Turn on the pump
• Plug pump in to GFI protected outlet.
• Allow system to run for at least one hour. Double check all fittings and filter for leaks. If a
leak has developed at a fitting, re-tighten the hose clamp. Because plumbing leaks will
cause your pond to lose water, continue to monitor all fittings and filter periodically to
ensure that new leaks do not develop.
• For proper pond filtration, pump and filter should operate 24 hours a day. Continuous
filtration of the water is required to maintain clear water.
IMPORTANT:Prior to installing the UV Bulb, and after the system has run for at least one
hour, thoroughly inspect the UV Chamber with UV Chamber Cover removed for any signs of
water leaks. Use of a flashlight may assist when inspecting for moisture.
4.5 UV Lamp Installation
• After performing the above procedure, ensure that the electrical supply is turned off and
disconnected before proceeding with the UV Bulb installation.
• If UV Chamber Lid is not already removed, remove it as described in Step “Before Pump is
turned on”
• Remove the UV Bulb from its separately packaged box, taking care not to handle the UV
Bulb by the glass but rather the plastic base, as skin oils may damage and shorten the
life of the bulb.
• Thread the UV Bulb into the UV Bulb Socket on the underside of the UV Chamber Lid.
• Apply supplied lubricant to UV Chamber Lid Seal.
• Carefully guide the UV Bulb into the Filter’s UV Chamber and inside the Quartz Sleeve.
