In-Ground UltraKlear™ Installation
4.2 Positioning the Pump
• It is important that ALL the water in the pond be pumped through the UV Unit. To accom-
plish this, it is recommended that the submersible pump and the UltraKlear™ UV should
be placed at opposite ends of the pond. If it is not possible to install the UltraKlear™ UV
at the opposite end of the pond from the pump, ensure that the UV unit’s return line enters
the pond at the opposite end from the pump.
• Position the tubing so that it runs out of the pond and buried along the edge of the pond
to chosen filter location. The tubing will run to the Hosetail on the Inlet of the UltraKlear™
UV and exit the Hosetail on the Outlet of the filter. The tubing will then run to where the
waterfall or re-entry point position has been chosen. Arrows on unit help signify the inlet
and the outlet.
• The Inlet and Outlet Hosetails require a Stainless Steel Hose Clamp (not included) to
securely fasten the tubing to the Filter. See Figure 2 on next page for more details.

3.1 Sizing your UltraKlear™ UV to your pond
• When sizing the UltraKlear™ UV to your pond, it is extremely important that your total
pond volume does not exceed the maximum volume recommended for your unit. Refer to
Table 1 to ensure that your UltraKlear™ UV is sized correctly for the volume (total gallons)
of your pond. It is much better to have too much UV treatment than not enough.
• If you are unsure of your total pond volume, it can be calculated by measuring in feet the
average Length of your pond, the average Width, and the average Depth. Multiply these
measurements – Length X Width X Depth – this will give you the average volume of the
pond in cubic feet. Since there are 7.48 US Gallons per cubic foot, we can multiply Length
X Width X Depth X 7.48. Example – for a pond that is 8(L) x 5(W) x 2(D) = 80 cubic feet X
7.48 = 598.4 US Gallons.
3.2 Sizing your pump to your UltraKlear™ UV
• When sizing the pump to be used with the UltraKlear™ UV, it is important NOT TO EXCEED
the maximum flow rate in GPH (Gallons Per Hour). (See Table 1) Exceeding these specifi-
cations may hinder the performance of the UltraKlear UV. Ideally, use the Aquascape™
AquaForce™ Solids Handling pumps to ensure the proper flow rate.
• To ensure that your pond water is filtered correctly, the pond volume should be pumped
through the UV Unit at least once every two hours. For example, a 1000 gallon pond would
require at least a 500 gallon per hour pump.
3.3 Sizing the Tubing to your Pump and UltraKlear™ UV
• The correct sized tubing is extremely important because of the restrictions encountered
when pumping water through tubing. See Table 1 for assistance with correct tubing sizes.
• The UltraKlear™ UV system is designed to work with vinyl or kink-free tubing. Flexible
PVC tubing may be adapted with additional fittings. NOTE: Refrain from using rigid pipe
because too many fittings will restrict the flow from your pump and reduce the efficiency of
the filter.
4) Installation Instructions
4.1 Positioning the UV Unit
• The UV unit should be installed on a firm and level base at least 2 feet from the edge
of the pond. The filter may rest simply on top of the ground or can be safely buried up
to within 1” of the bottom of the UV Inlet. If you choose to bury the UV unit, it should be
backfilled and the earth lightly compacted around the UV cannister.
IMPORTANT:Keep in mind that the UV unit requires a GFI equipped electrical source and
having a power source nearby simplifies the installation.
